The Beans belong to the family Leguminosae. We are considered healthy vegetables because they have high vegetable protein content. The green tender pods are used as dry seeds and as vegetables. Our large selection of bush green bean seeds, yellow bean seeds, pole beans, lima bean seed, dried and fava beans: we offer them all for home gardening or commercial. Fresh beans are easy to grow and highly nutritious, and wonderful colour, exceptional yields and much needed disease resistance. As with all our seeds, they have been organically grown in New Zealand climate conditions. Broccoli is a flowering variety of vegetable that is actually part of the cabbage family, broccoli, more correctly known as Calabrese, is a common vegetable eaten throughout the NZ so why not grow your own. Broccoli is a very nutritious vegetable offering Vitamin B6, B1, A, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, iron, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and more. Can be eaten raw or cooked.

Brussels sprouts, form of cabbage, belonging to the mustard family Brassicaceae. Brussels sprouts usually are eaten cooked, and the small young sprouts have a more delicate flavour than older ones. The vegetable is a good source of dietary fibre, folic acid, manganese, and vitamins A, C, and K. A seedling stage and early development, the plant closely resembles the common cabbage, but the main stem grows to a height of 60 to 90 cm, and the axillary buds along the stem develop into small heads (sprouts) similar to heads of cabbage but measuring only 25 to 40 mm in diameter. Most varieties have green sprouts, but red-leaved varieties have also been developed. Though commonly grown as annuals, Brussels sprouts are biennial plants and will produce yellow flowers with four petals if kept for two seasons. Seeds are borne in silique fruits. Our heirloom & heritage cabbage varieties, some of which are so tender that they border on being buttery, with mellow spicy flavours that vary with the seasons. And they are all so different! The sweet little ‘Early Copenhagen Market’, then space-saving ‘Early Jersey Wakefield’ and incredibly tasty ‘Golden Acre’, & amount many we grow. In every case there was a fascinating quality difference, which is one of the main reasons why we garden to grow our own!

Carrot, generally biennial plant of the Apiaceae family that produces an edible tap root. Among common varieties root shapes range from globular to long, with lower ends blunt to point. Besides the orange-coloured roots, white, yellow, and purple-fleshed varieties are known. Known for their high beta-carotene content, carrots are packed full of lots of vitamins and minerals necessary for a healthy diet.

The great thing about Cauliflower is that by using different varieties, you can now harvest at any time of the year. Such a versatile vegetable, it goes with just about any meal. White or coloured, tight heads and a superb flavour are the main requirements for a quality Cauliflower. This is easy to achieve if you follow some basic rules. The main one being that they need firm, fertile soil.

When growing your own chillies, you will need to choose a chilli variety which will grow comfortably in your growing space. The size your chilli plant will grow to will depend on the variety you choose, as chilli plants grow into small or medium sized plants from half a metre to two metres tall. The colour and size of the fruit your chilli plants produce will also vary. Chillies all start off green, then they can ripen to red, yellow, orange, black, purple and even brown, dependant on variety. Our heirloom varieties of corn with good quality cobs and larger kernels than most modern types. Early and sweet non-hybrid which is used as a basis for many of the newer varieties. Corn is high in carbs and packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals. It’s also relatively low in protein and fat. Colourful plates of food are appealing, but are they healthy too.

Silverbeet or Chard is a very popular green with highly nutritious and flavourful leaves and stalks. Like many leafy green vegetables, Silverbeet or Chard are rich in an array of minerals and vitamins; high levels of magnesium, calcium, vitamin K, iron, potassium, vitamin A, zinc, copper, vitamin C, dietary fibre, and vitamin E. Zucchini, (Cucurbita pepo), also called courgette, variety of summer squash in the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae), grown for its edible fruits. Zucchinis are common in home gardens and supermarkets, and the young fruits are cooked as a vegetable. The flowers are also edible and are sometimes fried. As with all our vegetables they are farm / home grown not imported seeds all pure New Zealand and organically grown.

Its botanical name 'Beta' comes from the Celtic 'bett' meaning 'red'. Beetroot is really a biennial, but is grown as an annual, both for its bulbous roots and leaves. It does best in well drained, fertile soils.

Capsicum's (Pepper's) come in a good range of fruit colours when mature - red, orange, yellow, chocolate and even purple. Celeriac, also known as celery root or knob celery, is a variety of celery cultivated for its edible, knobby root rather than its stalks and leaves. Celeriac is a biennial plant that belongs to the same family as celery, Apiaceae (Umbelliferae). It produces a round or bulbous root that has a pale, knobby appearance. The root is the primary edible part and has a mild, celery-like flavour.
