Pumpkins

This annual warm-season vegetable is available in an array of attractive varieties, some of which don’t resemble pumpkins at all. They also dish up some powerful nutritional perks like vitamins A, E and C, along with minerals like phosphorous, calcium and potassium. A member of the Cucurbitaceae family, the pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) is closely related to squash, melons and gourds.
  • Plants produce small and attractive fruits which are a very practical size, measuring roughly 500g approx.

    Exceptionally tasty, fruits have a pale flesh with a sweet flavour. Along with being compact and highly productive, plants also show good resistance to powdery mildew.

  • Also known as Kumi Kumi. We have been grown these for number of years with great success! Grown by organic methods on our farm in Banks Peninsula on black compost mix. It is a traditional Maori pumpkin. It is solid in shape with heavy ribbing. Size of a tennis ball, have a nutty flavour, a speckled green soft skin with white-green flesh and are used like zucchini. Mature kamo kamo have a speckled green hard skin, are about the size of a netball, have a deep white flesh and are used like buttercup squash. They are really good for storing for long period. Maturing time 100 to 130 days approx.

  • Atlantic Giant is probably the largest growing pumpkin you can get that can that reaches over a massive 400kg in weight approx. The plant has a trailing habit and they store for a long time. This variety is clearly a good exhibition variety because of its enormous size. Matures around 135 days from germination. Excellent texture and flavour!
