With its rich dark green, crumpled, fleshy leaves and broad white ribs, this is a happy alternative for spinach and has one big advantage over it in that it does not vanish to nothingness in quite the same way when cooked. Very easy to grow - just sow thinly in drills and thin out to 15cm or so apart, or just leaving the row to its own devices will still yield a large crop. 45cm.
